Nature-sourced Ingredients for Tattoo After-care

Natural and sustainably sourced cosmetic ingredients have evolved beyond being star marketing blurbs on a product label. Their sustainable sourcing has become an expectation; and growing emphasis has been placed on proving their real efficacy—comparable, or even surpassing, synthetic solutions. Burt's Bees, for one, has been a leading manufacturer to assert them in this capacity.

In relation, Argentine-based Novachem has focused on the research and development of active ingredients from natural sources with differential functions, all while maintaining respect for the environment. Recently, the company touted a collection of its ingredients for tattoo after-care, including:

  1. The Novaoil line of high purity oils, obtained by cold-processing followed by natural oil-based extraction. This is said to preserve the oil's nutritive and organoleptic characteristics. Arnica, in particular, is touted for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and calming effects, for post-tattooing, while Boswellia imparts soothing, softening and anti-inflammatory effects. Also, the Novaoil Coco product (INCI: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil (and) Vegetable Oil) is said to penetrate easily into the skin, smoothing and moisturizing.
  2. The Omega Max product is a concentrate of EFA-rich oils, including omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9, plus vitamin E. The concentrate can complement the well-being of skin and hair, and also has been shown to reduce skin irritation and inflammation. The concentrate includes: Argania spinosa kernel oil, Olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Helianthus annuus (sunflower seed) oil and Zea mays (corn) oil.
  3. Oligovita (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Propylene Glycol (and) Alcohol (and) Sodium PCA (and) Arginine (and) Lepidium Meyenii (Maca) Root Extract (and) Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract) is rich in minerals of vegetal origin and supports the treatment of aged and "tired" skin. This plant-derived sensory modifier also repairs and improves skin resistance.
  4. Finally, the Zinc Sebum product (INCI: Zinc (and) Chloride (and) Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein (and) Cinnamomum Zelyanicum Bark Extract (and) Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract (and) Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract (and) Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract) incorporates zinc peptides with astringent and sebo-normalizing action. It provides not only acne treatment and oil control, but also hydration and decongestive action on the skin as well as scalp, and antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
